Problem with spalted maple rosette

Post subject:  Problem with spalted maple rosette
So last night as we were finishing up my top, we started tap tuning and noticed a rattle type sound. All braces were tightly glued. Through investigation we found that the spalted maple rosette must have had a micro crack, or was loose. Has anyone experienced this before? We soaked the rosette in CA glue to try and bind and any cracks, and strengthen the fibers. It seems to have worked, but for how long is the question?!? We are at a point where we either push on, or build a new top, then I would route out the rosette and replace it down the road. Any thoughts would be appreciated

If you cA'd it real good, it should last as long as the guitar.

I agree more thin CA. It should seep everywhere it needs to. The rosette looks good.

Can you pinch the rosette and stop the buzz? If theres a loose pocket you might be able to drill a small hole under the rosette without going through it and put some CA under it to hold it. And yes the rosette looks awesome.

Have never had this happen with a rosette but have had it happen with reversed kerfed linings a couple of times. The first time near drove me crazy(as if I'm not anyway)trying to find it. CA came to the rescue. I think Jason had a good idea and if it was mine I would drill 12 (30 degrees or so apart) 1/16" holes in the back of the top under the rosette and soak them with CA. The rosette is eye catchy for sure.

I've done the CA flood trick on rosettes and it works. If you soaked it good enough and it is a tight fit you should be fine. I've even done Jason's trick, but I packed epoxy in.

The reason I didn't use CA is because I didn't want to risk the CA wicking into the top and turning it green. Be careful of that.

i just had the same problem and what i did was drill some 1/16 inch holes through the spruce on the underside of the rosette, heat the thing and flood it with thinned (around 1:4) HHG, then clamp for a couple of hours. i was a bit anxious about glue coming out on the face side side, but it just worked perfectly.
